Sweet Candied Jalapeno Peppers

Jalapeños are the most popular chile peppers in the US. This is probably due to the availability and versatility of the chile. Jalapeños have a balanced combination of flavor and heat. The demand for these have caused breeders to develop a broad range of varieties.

Ingredients

  • 4 Large jalapeno peppers, sliced into rings
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup to 1 cup water
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon chili pepper powder of your choice
  • 1 drop green food coloring

Instructions

  • Heat a sauté pan to medium-low heat
  • Add water
  • Dissolve sugar, Turmeric powder, ginger and chili pepper powder
  • Add drop of food coloring
  • Stir until sugar is dissolved
  • Add jalapeno peppers and simmer 3-4 minutes
  • Remove jalapenos and allow to cool
  • Repeat several times by adding the jalapeno peppers to the syrup until they are candied
