Spicy Jalapeño Cheese Dip

Jalapeños are the most popular chile peppers in the US. This is probably due to the availability and versatility of the chile. Jalapeños have a balanced combination of flavor and heat. The demand for these have caused breeders to develop a broad range of varieties.

Ingredients

  • 1 jalapeño pepper minced
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 cup Colby Jack cheese shredded
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper powder

Instructions

  1. Over medium heat, melt the butter in a sauce pan, then add flour and whisk until fully combined.
  2. Add milk and whisk to combine.
  3. Add the minced jalapeño pepper and the garlic and stir often until the mix begins to thicken (10 to 15 minutes).
  4. Remove the sauce from the heat and mix in the shredded Colby Jack cheese and cayenne pepper. Stir until then cheese is melted into the sauce.
