Masala Puri
These are very hot little firecrackers from the orient. They can be used to add spice to almost any oriental dish. They dry very easily and can be stored and used this way for a long time.
Serves : 4
Ingredients for Masala Puri
Dried green peas – 1 cup
Potatoes – 2
Carrot – 1
Onion chopped -1 big
Green chiles – 1 (optional)
Garlic cloves – 2 – 3
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Cinnamon stick – 1/2 inch
Cloves – 2
Vegetable Oil – 2 tbsp
Coriander leaves – 2 strands
Fresh mint leaves – 2
Chat masala – 1 tsp
Red chile powder – 2 tsp
Salt – to taste
Finely chopped onion, tomatoes, coriander leaves and any sev of your choice for garnish.

Steps to prepare Masala Puri
Step I
Soak the green peas overnight.
Peel the skin of carrot and potatoes and cut them into cubes.
Cook soaked green peas, carrot and potatoes in pressure cooker or pan adding water till they become soft.
Step II
Heat oil in pan. Add cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon and saute for few seconds.
Now add the chopped onions, green chili and garlic cloves and saute till it becomes light brown in color.
Step III
Add the boiled and sauteed ingredients along with mint leaves and coriander leaves in a blender and blend it to smooth paste.
Transfer this to pan. Add little water if required, red chile powder and chat masala and bring it to nice boil.
Masala gravy is now ready.
Assembling Masala Puri
On serving plate, crush the puris as desired.
Add the masala gravy prepared. You can also sprinkle some chat masala if desired.
Now add the dates chutney and mint chutney on top of the gravy as per your taste.
Nicely garnish it with chopped onion, tomatoes, coriander leaves and any sev of your choice.
Masala Puri is now ready. Serve fresh and hot and enjoy.
Tips:
Vary the spices as per your taste.
Add the chutney and garnish as per your taste. You can also add grated carrots, pomegranate, red chile powder, black salt if desired.
This chat tastes good when you serve it hot. So heat the gravy once before you serve.
