Essential Habanero Hot Sauce
This Caribbean pepper is famous for being the hottest chile pepper in the world. They come in a variety of shapes and colors(yellow, orange, green, red, chocolate). Not only are they extremely hot, but they also have a unique, distinctively fruity flavor.
It is the key ingredient in the popular Jamaican Jerk sauce. The habanero is also widely used in many different types of hot sauces. The popularity of this chile pepper continues to grow and is becoming easier to find on the grocery shelf.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups chopped carrots
1 onion, chopped
1 1/2 cups lime juice
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp salt
1 cup chopped habanero chiles (about 12 chiles)
Instructions:
Combine all the ingredients, except for the habaneros, in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil for 10 minutes or until carrots are soft. Place ingredients in a blender with the habaneros and process until smooth. Strain sauce if desired.
Note: adjust heat by adding fewer habaneros, not by adding more carrots as this will alter the flavor.
